This year Is a year for change… Today is a day for change
today Im going to speak to you from Matthew 22:37-40 (NKJV)
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
God has a plan for me and He has a plan for you too, the devil had a plan for me and you can be sure he also has one for you. But God’s plan is greater, amen.
God changed me and He can change you too, Ive lied, I’ve cheated, I’ve abused alcohol and drugs, I’ve been a dealer, you name it and I’ve probably had a go at it, or helped someone else but God changed me. And He will change you, if you let Him. God can change your family, God can change your town, your city, God can change this country.
God wants to bless us, we just need to give Him our hearts.
We need to turn away from worshipping false God’s, we need to stop worshipping money, we need to stop worshipping friends, we need to stop worshipping toys, we need to stop worshipping stuff.
We need to turn to the one true God who came to earth as a man and died for our sins. We need to turn to Him, Jesus is our saviour, Our God is the one true living God.
Ive just come back from Bali, it was supposed to be a holiday, Robyn was there, My wife Pastor Amanda was there. But very quickly it became a work and ministry trip. Indonesia is the largest Muslim country in the world, and Bali is 90% Hindu. We had our driver Ketut who Robyn has known for 18 years ask for prayer for his liver and heart, Ketut has driven many pastors around Bali but not ever asked for prayer. We had staff in the hotel we were staying coming to our rooms wanting prayer for healing, we also went to an orphanage, actually 2, the first wouldn’t let us in but the second was open to us, we just walked in and hey wanted us to pray for them and with them, again in all the time Robyn has been going to Bali and other pastors going to the same places, this hasn’t happened. Things just kept happening, God kept moving, But why?
Let me tell you what I think.
We love God as He loves us.
Lets look at Matthew 3:1 onwards
John the Baptist Prepares the Way
3 In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” 3 For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying:
“The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of the Lord;
Make His paths straight.’”[a]
4 Now John himself was clothed in camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey. 5 Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him 6 and were baptised by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, 9 and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. 10 And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 11 I indeed baptise you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire.[b] 12 His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
John Baptises Jesus
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptised by him. 14 And John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptised by You, and are You coming to me?”
15 But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfil all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him.
16 When He had been baptised, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He[c] saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. 17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
What are we seeing here?
John is baptising people and they are confessing their sins.
The Pharisees and Sadducees were being religious. (The Pharisees and Sadducees were essentially political and religious parties or groups)
John tells them they should bear fruit worthy of repentance and says every tree that does not bear good fruit shall be cut down and burnt.
But Jesus is coming and will baptise in the Holy Spirit, and He will sort out the chaff from the wheat, Hw will sort out who is doing good and who is just talking about it.
John then baptists Jesus and a voice comes from heaven saying
“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
Let me tell you
Its time to start loving God like He loves us.
Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Now Matthew was a former tax collector turned missionary and was martyred in Ethiopia, where he was supposedly stabbed in the back by an swordsman sent by King Hertacus, after he criticised the king’s morals. But he was writing how Jesus burden was light. Matthew had peace and knew who he was in Christ, he stood up for what he believed and did what he was called to do, Matthew paid the ultimate price.
Today is your day, If you want freedom you can have it! If your not saved yet, you haven’t given your life to Jesus yet Today is your opportunity. If you need to be delivered today you can be. You can be changed forever in Jesus name, but Its time to start loving God like He loves us.
We serve a God who wants to bless us and prosper us. We just need to let Him by loving Him.
